JONNA X KANGAN: UK LAUNCH
Let’s kick off the week with an exclusive pre-launch peep…
Jonna X Kangan is a fresh new label – a collaboration of two innovative young designers: Jonna Saarinen and Kangan Arora. Having met at Central Saint Martin’s on the Textiles degree course (they both graduated in 2009), Jonna went on to study Printed Textiles at the Royal College of Art while Kangan concentrated on her own brand, Kangan Arora Design. This year, they’ve decided to team up, with exciting results; The ladies come from very different cultures (Jonna is Finnish, Kangan is Indian) so their influences are varied which makes this collaboration all the more interesting. Channelling everything from mid-century modern Scandinavian design and Indian popular culture to Finnish folklore and vintage finds picked up in antiques markets, this collection is essentially a combination of all the things I like!
Screen-printed in South London (at Pyttipannu Studios), the bright accessories are created using hand-cut stencils. The first collection includes cushions, tea towels, tote bags, one-off paper prints, greeting cards, notebooks and sketchbooks.
Jonna X Kangan products will be sold exclusively through a Supermarket Sarah feature wall (due to launch on the 16th of July) then through a website and Etsy page – both still under construction! Meanwhile, follow the ladies on Twitter ( @jonnaxkangan) or Instagram for regular updates.
Cushions will start at £28 and go up t0 £74 for large ones; Tea towels will be £10 each; Notebooks and sketchbooks will start at £4; Tote bags at £9.
I love the fresh colour combinations, the hand-cut collage-style shapes and the fun pom-pom trims in this cheery debut collection. Jonna X Kangan is definitely ‘one to watch’!
